Glaze is a conversation with the last firing.

The oatmeal slip we use on the tall vases started as a mistake: too much iron, not enough feldspar. It crawled in one corner and we liked the crawl.
Now we mix it the same way and still get surprises. A cooler corner of the kiln turns it chalky. A hotter shelf pulls the terracotta lip darker.
We mark the foot of each piece with a small notch for the shelf it sat on. It is not romance. It is how we remember.
